DFG - German Research Foundation

Central self-governing body of science and research in Germany

The German Research Foundation (“Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft”, DFG) is the central self-governing body of science and research in Germany. It is responsible for distributing financial aid to scientific projects at universities. The funds originate from the Federal Government (58 percent) and the State Governments (42 percent).

DFG statutes furthermore stipulate the tasks of supporting co-operation between researchers, supporting young scientists, providing scientific advice for parliaments and authorities and fostering relations between the science communities in and outside of Germany.
