Chemical lab technician

For over 40 years, chemical lab technicians have received on-the-job training at the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry, at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. Over 60 apprentices have received their certificates during that time; generally, five future chemical lab technicians are learning their trade at the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry at any given time.

In the press: Young talents for science and the region (in German).

Basic information:

the training lasts 3.5 years and starts in September of each year
on-the-job training, vocational school runs parallel to the apprenticeship

among others, the following topics are taught:

  • planning, executing and analysing of tests/analyses
  • supervision of analytical instruments
  • production of chemical compounds
Possible fields of work:
  • chemical and pharmaceutical industry
  • food industry, paints, lacquers and varnish industry
  • public service domain: at universities, environmental offices, research institutes
  • analytical laboratories
Further information:
More information about the training may be acquired at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Schleswig-Holstein     (in German)

If interested, pupils may apply for an internship.

Please note:

Unfortunately, because we do not have sufficient statutory posts (operating agreement), we can offer our new specialised workers a contract for one year only. But the career prospects for chemical lab technicians are very good at the moment and graduates of the training programme should be able to get a job easily in Schleswig-Holstein and across Germany.
